Description:

This poem was created on a poetry mailing list. One of the members asked the question, this was my response.

Do Helicopters Eat Their Young?

Yes.
With salt, sometimes with
pepper, sometimes with a dash
of garlic,
sometimes with a knife and
sometimes with a big flat wooden spoon,
furiously scraping the sides of the bowl.

Yes.
Because all good little helicopters
should be seen, not heard.

Yes,
Because although no one has actually ever seen
a helicopter give birth
it stands to reason and
there has to be a reason
why the world isn’t overrun
by miniature spinning
propellers.

Yes,
because
something creaks like old metal
and something cries like someone is missing and
somewhere something drips, tears or oil or blood.
