Birdy Girl

Birdy girl stands on one leg
On the edge of the dock, down by the water.
Head down and shoulders bent,
She sees the town behind her
reflected in the broken wavelets
rising from the waterfront.
First, there is her
brown hair dripping
then the busy people
walking too and fro
then the houses, yellow walled and
red roofed, and the cars,
water beetles darting down the road
moving out of the reflection
altogether.
